When To Replace Nissan Windshield Wipers
Windshield wiper blades last about 6-12 months. Your wiper blades may last longer or shorter than this, though. It depends on several factors, including:
- Whether you park your Nissan in the sun often (excessive heat from the sun can dry out the blades and cause them to crack)
- How often you use the wiper blades (the more you use them, the faster they wear out)
If you’re not sure whether your wiper blades need replacing yet, you came to the right place. It’s easy to determine if your wipers still have some life left in them.
The Biggest Telltale Signs Of Worn Wiper Blades

When your wiper blades are in use, you may notice some signs of worn blades, including:
- Streaking or hazing on the windshield. This is a sign of loose or jagged blades.
- The wipers juddering across the windshield and making a chattering sound. (This happens when there’s too much friction between the windshield and the wiper blades. This could also indicate a problem with the wiper arm.)
- The wipers pulling away from the windshield at higher speeds - this could mean that the wiper arm spring is failing.
- The wiper blade(s) coming loose from the backing. This would be pretty obvious. You’ll see the rubber blade flailing across the windshield without being supported by the backing.
It can be dangerous to wait until the wipers are in use to see if they’re still good. You can check your wipers when it’s still nice and sunny outside. All you need to do is give your Nissan's wipers a physical inspection.
Inspecting Your Wiper Blades: What To Look For

Grab a flashlight and give your front and rear wipers a thorough physical inspection. Here's what you want to look for:
- Any looseness in the wiper arms
- Any damage (such as bends) in the wiper arms
- Wear and tear in the rubber wiper blades such as lack of flexibility, rounded edges, cracks, fraying, or missing pieces
- Wear and tear in the wiper blade backing made evident by looseness, missing pieces or cracks
- Corrosion at joints and claws
