How To Replace Your Rearview Mirror
The rearview mirror is one of your Nissan’s most important interior accessories. It’s not only a functional part, but it’s also an important safety feature. In most states, you need at least two functioning mirrors on your Nissan that allow you to see behind you.
So if you have a broken rearview mirror, it’s smart to replace it as soon as possible. We’ll walk you through the process with this tutorial. We have three different tutorials:

The Two Main Components Of A Rearview Mirror
There are two different parts of a rearview mirror:
- The mirror assembly
- The mount
The mount attaches to the windshield, and the mirror assembly attaches to the mount. Sometimes the mount is broken, and sometimes the mirror assembly is broken. You may want to confirm which part is broken before ordering a replacement part.
Ordering A Replacement Part

When you get your replacement rearview mirror (or mount), it’s time to roll up your sleeves and install it.
Replacing A Basic Rearview Mirror
Do you have a basic rearview mirror (without any wiring) that needs replacing? If so, we have good news. This is the easiest replacement job out of the three jobs in this post. All you need to do is to detach the old mirror assembly from the mount and then attach the new mirror to the mount. Here are more detailed steps:
- Remove the rearview mirror. The way to do this depends on your Nissan model. Some rearview mirror assemblies come with a tab on the mount that you can push in to remove the mirror. In some mirror assemblies, the mirror is screwed into the mount. In that case, you would need to use a screwdriver to detach the mirror from the mount. In some Nissan mirror assemblies (like the Rogue), you would only need to push the mirror upward to remove it. The average person would be able to figure out how to remove the rearview mirror in their Nissan.
- Install the new rearview mirror in the reverse order of removal.
Replacing An Electric Rearview Mirror
Some rearview mirrors are quite sophisticated these days. For example, some rearview mirrors have auto dimming and smart LED screens. Replacing an electric rearview mirror is harder than replacing a basic rearview mirror. It’s because you have to worry about the wiring, too. Thankfully, it's still a pretty simple process. The process varies between Nissan models, but here's an overview:
- Remove the wiring cover on the mount.
- Disconnect all the wires from the mirror.
- Remove the mirror.
- Install the new mirror.
- Connect all the wires to the new mirror.
- Put the wiring cover back on the mount.
Replacing A Rearview Mirror Mount
The rearview mirror mount is on the windshield pretty securely. It's so the rearview mirror doesn't fall off in an accident. That doesn't mean that it's impossible to remove the mirror mount. It's actually an easy process.
The rearview mirror mount is attached to the windshield with a mirror bracket that's glued to the windshield. All you need to do is:
- Remove the mirror.
- Unscrew the mirror mount from the bracket.
- Screw in the new mirror mount.
- Reinstall the mirror.
